News from the Open Hands Education Free Vocational Sewing and Tailoring Program

New Batch of Students Starts the Program!
We are proud to announce that a new group of sewing students have started in the program. The twenty students include women and older girls from remote villages and very poor rural areas. During their six month training program they will develop the skills to make shirts, trousers, skirts, blouses, school uniforms, and Indian traditional clothing such as sari blouses, trousers, shirts, and Salwar Kameez and more. We have witnessed incredible changes in the lives of the women who complete this program. With increased self-esteem, and the skills and ability to earn an income to help their families - some have been able to move beyond the grinding cycle of poverty that has been generational for their family. It is very exciting to witness this kind of change and empowerment

News from Open Hands Education Free School in Dadwan Village

Life continues on at the Open Hands Free School. Now there are 65 to 68 children in school. With class size increasing, more study materials are needed to help each child progress at their own rate. The teacher works very hard to help all the children to learn, while at the same time being very patient and supportive with them. An older female student who is being helped by Open Hands to stay in school, gives some assistance to the teacher, and helps the younger students. There is a happy atmosphere in the classroom, and the children love to attend school. This shows that a lot of progress has been made since 2018 when Open Hands Education began a campaign in the village to raise awareness with families and children about the value of going to school and having an education. Parents and families of the students now express much gratitude that their children are in school.
