International Women's Day Fundraiser

A donor and friend of Open Hands Education Trust in Australia ran an event there to raise funds for six months worth of wages for the sewing school teacher - and we are very grateful. As well, extra funds raised will go towards renovations in the building we are using - including building a roof that can shade the students from the sun in hot weather. Family members of the students as well as Jhulan will help with the labour in order to keep costs down. A huge thank-you to Celia and Grant Fuller for organizing this event and raising the funds.

Opening of Free School For Poor Children in Dadawan Village

We are very excited to hire a teacher and open a free school for village children whose families could not afford to send them to school. We are using the same classroom area that the sewing program is now using by staggering the days that the programs operate. Before the school began we held a " Youth Education Awareness Campaign" in the village. Since these children had never attended school, and both they and their parents did not understand the value of an education - the education awareness program helped build everyone's enthusiasm for attending school! (In the beginning providing treats at school, such as sweets and study materials, helped with interest in attending too!)
